Gormund — fantasy wizard

Gormund can anchor a scene about the responsibility that comes with magical power. Cast him as an adviser who understands the cost of a proposed spell, a difficult ally guarding forbidden knowledge, or a rival whose judgement the heroes must challenge. His usefulness lies in giving the party a consequential decision: accept his help, question his demands or seek another way through the danger. Develop those choices within your own campaign.
