Prepare the standing deer
Inspect the antler forks and legs for support marks without flexing them. Remove dust around the snowflakes; wash away greasy residue if needed and dry the deer fully. Brush on thin Vallejo Grey Surface Primer, reaching behind the relief and under the belly.
Expected result
The primer covers the deer while antler forks and snowflake grooves stay open.
Points to watch
Do not hold the deer by one antler tip.

1. Prepare the model

Prepare the standing deer

Inspect the antler forks and legs for support marks without flexing them. Remove dust around the snowflakes; wash away greasy residue if needed and dry the deer fully. Brush on thin Vallejo Grey Surface Primer, reaching behind the relief and under the belly.
Expected result
The primer covers the deer while antler forks and snowflake grooves stay open.
Points to watch
Do not hold the deer by one antler tip.

2. Apply the base colours

Lay in the winter teal
Where to paint: Teal body
Stegadon Scale Greencitadel · 21-10
Apply Stegadon Scale Green over the smooth body, including the muzzle, ear interiors and tail. Paint around the raised snowflakes and stop at the hoof borders and antler roots.
Expected result
The entire body has a continuous deep teal foundation, including the belly and rear legs.
Points to watch
Do not add a contrasting red or black nose.
Establish the gold antlers
Where to paint: Gold antlers
Retributor Armourcitadel · 21-35
Brush Retributor Armour along the antler stems and out onto each branch. Rotate the deer to coat the rear curves, keeping metallic paint above the teal forehead.
Expected result
Gold covers both antlers without gaps at the forks or roots.
Points to watch
Do not leave metallic specks on the face.
Colour the sculpted snowflakes
Where to paint: Ivory snowflakes
Wraithbonecitadel · 21-53
Paint Wraithbone on the existing snowflake relief, starting with the thicker centre and reaching each sculpted branch. Keep the teal gaps between the branches open and include the smaller rear-flank cluster.
Expected result
Ivory follows the actual relief on both sides with no extra painted snowflakes.
Points to watch
Do not join neighbouring branches with a thick pale layer.
Define eyes and hooves
Where to paint: Dark eyes and hooves
Corvus Blackcitadel · 21-44
Apply Corvus Black inside the eye ovals and around each hoof below its raised border. Keep the muzzle teal and separate the dark hooves from the long legs.
Expected result
Both eyes and all four hooves are dark with clean teal borders.
Points to watch
Do not extend black from an eye onto the cheek.

3. Build the shadows

Deepen the antler forks
Where to paint: Gold antlers
Agrax Earthshadecitadel · 24-15
Guide Agrax Earthshade into the inner forks and along the lower rear curves of the antlers. Draw off any pooling at the roots so the gold remains visible rather than becoming uniformly brown.
Expected result
Brown shade separates the branches while the broad front curves stay gold.
Points to watch
Do not flood the forehead below the antler roots.

4. Build the highlights

Light the smooth winter body
Where to paint: Teal body
Temple Guard Bluecitadel · 22-20
Build thin Temple Guard Blue across the forehead, front of the neck and upper flanks. Narrow each brighter pass towards the central chest and let the colour fade around the sides, keeping the belly and inner legs deep teal.
Expected result
The smooth body has clear rounded volume with the face and chest leading the light.
Points to watch
Do not add fur strokes or speckled texture to the smooth sculpt.
Brighten the antler curves
Where to paint: Gold antlers
Liberator Goldcitadel · 22-71
Run Liberator Gold along the front upper curves of both antlers, narrowing the strokes near the tips. Leave the shaded forks and lower rear curves untouched so the metal has depth.
Expected result
Champagne-gold light follows the branches while their brown recesses remain visible.
Points to watch
Do not coat the antlers uniformly in the lighter gold.
Clarify the ivory relief
Where to paint: Ivory snowflakes
Pallid Wych Fleshcitadel · 22-58
Touch Pallid Wych Flesh onto the upper ridges of the snowflake branches. Keep the lower edges in Wraithbone and the tiny gaps teal, following only relief that is already sculpted.
Expected result
The snowflakes are crisp and pale without losing their warm ivory depth.
Points to watch
Do not widen a thin branch with a white outline.
Give the hooves form
Where to paint: Dark eyes and hooves
Eshin Greycitadel · 22-51
Add short Eshin Grey strokes to the front and outer upper faces of the hooves. Keep the grooves and bottom edges in Corvus Black so the feet remain dark and grounded.
Expected result
Each hoof is readable beneath its teal leg without a bright grey band.
Points to watch
Do not carry the grey highlight up the long legs.

5. Paint the details

Give the eyes a small reflection
Where to paint: Dark eyes and hooves
Pallid Wych Fleshcitadel · 22-58
Place a tiny Pallid Wych Flesh reflection at the upper front of each dark eye. Preserve almost the entire oval in black so the reflection remains a restrained point.
Expected result
The eyes catch the light without looking like large white dots.
Points to watch
Do not add a white ring around the eye.

6. Finish the model

Clean the relief boundaries
Where to paint: Teal body
Stegadon Scale Greencitadel · 21-10
Correct stray ivory and gold in the deep teal gaps with Stegadon Scale Green. Inspect the underside, tail and rear legs; return to the body-light step where a correction crosses a lit area.
Expected result
The relief has clean borders and the deer is painted consistently around every side.
Points to watch
Do not erase the narrow natural gap beneath a snowflake branch.
