Prepare the Ultron bust
Clear sanding dust from the face seams and deep neck mechanics, wash the bust and let the cavities dry. Build a thin coat of Black Surface Primer from below first, then sweep across the silver shell areas without filling the battle damage.
Expected result
Every mechanical recess is black and the face plates stay cleanly separated at their seams.
Points to watch
Do not soften the mouth slots, eye sockets or chipped edges with excess primer.

1. Prepare the model

Prepare the Ultron bust
Where to paint: Whole model

Clear sanding dust from the face seams and deep neck mechanics, wash the bust and let the cavities dry. Build a thin coat of Black Surface Primer from below first, then sweep across the silver shell areas without filling the battle damage.
Expected result
Every mechanical recess is black and the face plates stay cleanly separated at their seams.
Points to watch
Do not soften the mouth slots, eye sockets or chipped edges with excess primer.

2. Apply the base colours

Lay Leadbelcher from the centre of each shell plate toward its edge, using two thin coats around the fine cheek grooves.
Expected result
The outer shell is even steel and every seam around the jaw and eyes remains open.

Keep metal paint out of the red lenses and the black mechanical gaps.
Base coat
Where to paint: Dark jaw gaps, neck pistons and chest mechanics
Abaddon Blackcitadel · 21-25
Set Abaddon Black into the deepest openings, working from the recess outward so the silver plate edges stay sharp.
Expected result
The face and chest mechanisms have deep black separation with no pale primer inside.
Points to watch
Do not cover the raised pistons, silver grille bars or red lenses.
Base coat
Where to paint: Dark jaw gaps, neck pistons and chest mechanics
Leadbelchercitadel · 21-28
Pick out each raised mechanism with Leadbelcher, pulling the brush along its length rather than across the black gaps.
Expected result
Individual rods and pistons read as steel while the spaces between them remain black.
Points to watch
Do not drybrush silver across the entire mechanical cavity.

3. Build the shadows

Trace Nuln Oil through the sculpted channels with a fine brush, cleaning the wash from the flat face plates as you go.
Expected result
Dark seams sharpen Ultron's expression without dulling the silver mask.

Shade

Dot Nuln Oil around each mounting point and pull excess wash back into the surrounding black cavity.
Expected result
The steel mechanisms sit convincingly inside the darker machine body.
Points to watch
Do not leave shiny wash on the flat faces of the pistons.

4. Build the highlights

Expected result
The head and upper chest gain a clear top light while the lower bust stays heavier and darker.

Do not repaint the whole shell with Ironbreaker or erase the shaded seams.
Highlight

Add Ironbreaker as short lengthwise glints, brightest on the mechanisms nearest the face.
Expected result
The internal parts are readable at a glance but remain subordinate to the outer shell.

Do not brighten the deep black cavities or every cable equally.

Place Stormhost Silver in tiny separated strokes on the sharpest corners, matching the light direction across the face.
Expected result
The face catches crisp machine-like glints without becoming a white outline.

5. Add effects and weathering

Base coat

Lay Deep Red into the rear of both lenses first, keeping a narrow black border around their silver frames.
Expected result
Both eyes share the same dark-red foundation and remain cleanly framed.
Points to watch

Layer Mephiston Red over the centre, leaving Deep Red visible at the rear and outer edge of each lens.
Expected result
The red becomes saturated through the middle with matching dark edges on both eyes.
Points to watch
Do not cover the entire Deep Red foundation or cross the silver eyelids.
Highlight
Where to paint: Red eye lenses and energy slits
Evil Sunz Scarletcitadel · 22-05
Blend Evil Sunz Scarlet toward the same front corner in both eyes, tapering it before it reaches the silver frame.
Expected result
The two lenses now glow in one direction with a clear dark-to-bright gradient.

Do not make a flat scarlet stripe across the full width of either eye.

Place a tiny White dot in each lens with the same brush pressure and position.
Expected result
The paired white reflections make the red lenses look luminous rather than merely painted.

Do not enlarge the dots into white pupils or add extra specks around the eyes.

6. Finish the model

Cover the plinth with Corvus Black, pushing it beneath the ribbons while leaving raised electronic parts visible.
Expected result
The base forms one dark foundation and no pale primer shows between the cables.

Do not cover the raised circuit tracks or merge separate cable bundles into black blobs.

Place Nuln Oil at each junction and draw it into the shadow beneath the crossing part.
Expected result
Every overlap has a clear lower layer and the metal remains clean on top.

Draw Dawnstone in short segments along the rim and cable bends, leaving breaks wherever a wire passes underneath another.
