Clean, wash and prime the Intercessor
Remove print dust and support marks, checking the helmet grille and the spaces around the hands. Wash the miniature in warm soapy water, rinse and let it dry completely. Spray Grey Surface Primer in light passes from several angles, including below the rifle.
Expected result
The helmet grille and gun recesses remain open under a thin, even primer coat.
Points to watch
Stop spraying before primer collects around the fingers gripping the rifle.

1. Prepare the model

Remove print dust and support marks, checking the helmet grille and the spaces around the hands. Wash the miniature in warm soapy water, rinse and let it dry completely. Spray Grey Surface Primer in light passes from several angles, including below the rifle.
Expected result

2. Apply the base colours

Paint the blue armour
Where to paint: Blue armour plates and backpack
Macragge Bluecitadel · 21-08
Paint the armour with two thin coats of Macragge Blue. Cover the backpack, inner legs and the blue fingers beneath the rifle as carefully as the chest.
Expected result
Every blue plate has a smooth, opaque coat.
Points to watch
Keep blue off the shoulder rims, chest emblem and ribbed joints.
Paint the gold details
Where to paint: Gold trim and emblems; hanging parchment
Retributor Armourcitadel · 21-35
Apply Retributor Armour to both shoulder rims, the chest aquila and the small winged rifle emblem. Use thin coats to preserve the feather relief.
Expected result
All intended gold parts are covered without obscuring their relief.
Points to watch
Do not extend gold onto the black gun casing.
Paint the parchment strips
Where to paint: Gold trim and emblems; hanging parchment
Zandri Dustcitadel · 21-16
Paint the hanging parchment with Zandri Dust, working around the wax seal at the top.
Expected result
The parchment is sandy and separate from the armour.
Points to watch
Keep this colour off the seal and nearby gold.
Paint the lenses and seal red
Where to paint: Red lenses and wax seal; light wear on the boots
Mephiston Redcitadel · 21-03
Paint both eye lenses and the wax seal with Mephiston Red, keeping their borders sharp.
Expected result
Red stays inside the lenses and on the wax.
Points to watch
Do not paint the parchment red.
Paint the black parts
Where to paint: Rifle, ribbed joints and dark belt fittings
Abaddon Blackcitadel · 21-25
Paint the rifle casing, ribbed joints and dark belt fittings with Abaddon Black. Work carefully between the blue fingers and the gun.
Expected result
The black parts are opaque, including the rifle underside.
Points to watch
Leave the muzzle and exposed mechanisms for steel.
Paint the exposed steel
Where to paint: Rifle, ribbed joints and dark belt fittings
Leadbelchercitadel · 21-28
Apply Leadbelcher to the barrel, muzzle, magazine and exposed mechanical parts. Keep the bore black.
Expected result
Steel and black casing remain clearly separated.
Points to watch
Do not cover the gold rifle emblem with steel.

3. Build the shadows

Shade the armour overlaps

Kantor Bluecitadel · 21-07
Thin Kantor Blue and brush it beneath the shoulder rims, inside the elbows and under overlapping plates. Soften the outer boundary of each shadow with a clean damp brush.
Expected result
The recesses are darker, with no hard blue stains on the open plates.
Points to watch
Do not darken the entire chest or shoulder face.
Shade between the gold feathers
Where to paint: Gold trim and emblems; hanging parchment
Reikland Fleshshadecitadel · 24-24
Place a little Reikland Fleshshade between the aquila feathers and beneath the shoulder rims. Remove excess before it stains the flat gold.
Expected result
Warm shadows separate the feathers and trim.
Points to watch
Do not wash over the blue shoulder panels.
Shade the parchment folds
Where to paint: Gold trim and emblems; hanging parchment
Seraphim Sepiacitadel · 24-23
Use Seraphim Sepia in the parchment creases and just below the seal.
Expected result
The folds are visible without turning the parchment dark brown.
Points to watch
Do not leave a droplet on the pointed paper ends.
Darken the steel recesses
Where to paint: Rifle, ribbed joints and dark belt fittings
Nuln Oilcitadel · 24-14
Apply Nuln Oil around the barrel fittings and into the magazine grooves. Wick away pools from the muzzle face.
Expected result
Steel is darker in the joints, with a clean muzzle opening.
Points to watch
Do not leave glossy wash patches on the gun.

4. Build the highlights

Build soft blue highlights
Where to paint: Blue armour plates and backpack
Macragge Bluecitadel · 21-08
Calgar Bluecitadel · 22-16
Mix Calgar Blue into Macragge Blue and build thin layers over the top of the helmet, shoulders and forward-facing knee. Make successive layers smaller so the colour blends into the darker sides.
Expected result
The helmet and shoulders look rounded rather than outlined.
Points to watch
Do not spread the lightest mix beneath the rifle.
Finish a few armour edges
Where to paint: Blue armour plates and backpack
Calgar Bluecitadel · 22-16
Fenrisian Greycitadel · 22-68
Use Calgar Blue for thin lines along the upper armour edges. Add a few smaller Fenrisian Grey touches to the helmet brow, near shoulder corner and raised knuckles.
Expected result
The brightest accents stay around the head and hands.
Points to watch
Avoid an equally bright outline around every plate.
Highlight the upper gold relief
Where to paint: Gold trim and emblems; hanging parchment
Liberator Goldcitadel · 22-71
Touch Liberator Gold onto the upper feathers and the top-facing edges of both shoulder rims.
Expected result
Small bright gold edges stand out against the warm shadows.
Points to watch
Keep broad lower surfaces in the darker gold.
Lighten the parchment

Layer Ushabti Bone over the raised folds and ends of the parchment strips, leaving the shaded creases visible.
Expected result
The parchment looks warm and pale, not bright white.
Points to watch
Do not add unreadable rows of tiny writing.
Lighten the red details
Where to paint: Red lenses and wax seal; light wear on the boots

Add Evil Sunz Scarlet to the lower outer half of each lens and the raised edge of the wax seal.
Expected result
The red details are brighter at their exposed edges.
Points to watch
Leave some Mephiston Red visible in each lens.
Separate black and steel highlights

Ironbreakercitadel · 22-59
Use Eshin Grey on the upper edges of the black casing and lightly on the raised joint ribs. Apply Ironbreaker only to the steel muzzle rim and exposed metal corners.
Expected result
Black remains black; the steel catches sharper reflections.
Points to watch
Keep silver off the flexible joints and belt fittings.

5. Paint the details

Add tiny lens reflections
Where to paint: Red lenses and wax seal; light wear on the boots

Place one tiny White Scar dot in the upper inner corner of each eye lens.
Expected result
The two red lenses have matching white reflections.
Points to watch
Do not add white dots to the wax seal.

6. Add effects and weathering

Add a little dust to the boots

Stipple a little XV-88 around the toe caps and lower greaves with a nearly dry brush. Add just a few smaller Ushabti Bone marks within the largest dusty patches.
Expected result
The boots look used while most blue armour stays clean.
Points to watch
Do not cover the figure in uniform speckling.
