Prepare the complete spear bearer without burying small sculpted details.
Inspect both spear ends and the raised tail for support marks; trim them gently. Rinse off dust if needed and let every gap dry completely. Brush on a thin, even coat of Vallejo Black Surface Primer without filling the teeth or scale grooves.
Expected result
Primer is dry; the necklace links and teeth remain separate.

Do not let primer pool beneath the curled tail.

1. Prepare the model

Inspect both spear ends and the raised tail for support marks; trim them gently. Rinse off dust if needed and let every gap dry completely. Brush on a thin, even coat of Vallejo Black Surface Primer without filling the teeth or scale grooves.
Expected result
Primer is dry; the necklace links and teeth remain separate.

Do not let primer pool beneath the curled tail.

2. Apply the base colours

Establish a deep blue-green foundation for the scaled skin.

Incubi Darknesscitadel · 21-11
Cover these scaled surfaces with thin Incubi Darkness. Stop cleanly at the throat and underside; leave the spaces between the dorsal plates dark so their relief stays legible.
Expected result
The outer skin has an even dark foundation and the pale areas are still distinct.
Points to watch
Keep paint out of the eye sockets and tiny tooth gaps.
Separate the soft underside and hard pale points from the scales.
Where to paint: Pale belly and claws
Rakarth Fleshcitadel · 21-27
Build Rakarth Flesh in two thin coats across the underside, then touch the sculpted teeth and claws with the brush point. Keep the blue-green edge sharp along the jaw and tail.
Expected result
The belly is opaque but its folds and tooth line are open.
Points to watch
Do not turn the pale underside into a broad white stripe on the back.
Give the loincloth a dark red foundation.

Khorne Redcitadel · 21-04
Paint the cloth with Khorne Red from the knot toward each tip. Keep the cloth edges separate from the belly, thighs and necklace.
Expected result
Every cloth flap has a continuous red base and its fold recesses remain visible.
Points to watch
Do not flood the narrow gap beneath the waist knot.
Distinguish the long wooden handle from skin and metal.
Where to paint: Spear shaft
Mournfang Browncitadel · 21-20
Draw Mournfang Brown along the spear in controlled strokes, turning the figure to reach the wood behind the raised hand. Follow the shaft rather than stippling random grain.
Expected result
The handle reads as one wooden material from end to end.
Points to watch
Avoid brown on the gripping fingers and metal blade.
Establish a cool metal point at the spear tip.

Cover the blade with a smooth thin coat of Leadbelcher, following the two sculpted planes from socket to tip. Leave the wood and bindings untouched.
Expected result
Both blade faces are metallic and the edge relief remains crisp.

Do not extend the silver onto the wooden shaft.
Give the neck pieces and spear fittings a muted bronze foundation.
Where to paint: Neck ornaments
Balthasar Goldcitadel · 21-29
Pick out each raised fitting with Balthasar Gold, letting the dark primer define the gaps between necklace links. Keep the bronze narrower than the sculpted outlines.
Expected result
All fittings share one subdued metal colour; links are still individually readable.
Points to watch
Do not paint the entire neck band as a flat gold strip.
Set the warm eye colour before the later highlights.
Where to paint: Eyes
Averland Sunsetcitadel · 21-01
Touch Averland Sunset into the iris with the finest point, leaving the dark eye rim intact. Check the second eye from the opposite side before finishing.
Expected result
Each iris has a clean yellow foundation within its dark rim.
Points to watch
Do not enlarge the iris beyond the sculpted socket.

3. Build the highlights

Bring the exposed scales toward the image's turquoise midtone.
Where to paint: Teal scales
Sotek Greencitadel · 22-19
Layer Sotek Green over the broad upper faces, leaving a dark blue-green line around each scale and beneath the tail. Pull short strokes toward the light rather than brushing every scale equally.
Expected result
The top planes are turquoise while the grooves retain depth.
Points to watch
Avoid an all-over drybrush that catches the pale belly.
Make the cloth folds legible without flattening the red shadow.
Where to paint: Red loincloth
Evil Sunz Scarletcitadel · 22-05
Place thin Evil Sunz Scarlet on the raised folds and feather each stroke toward the waist knot. Allow Khorne Red to remain in the deeper channels.
Expected result
The cloth has a clear lit edge and dark folds.
Points to watch
Do not outline every fold with an equally bright line.

4. Paint the details

Give the spear bearer a directed gaze.
Where to paint: Eyes
Abaddon Blackcitadel · 21-25
Place one tiny Abaddon Black pupil in each dry iris, aligned toward the same side. Rotate the model to check that both marks remain inside the sculpted eyes.
Expected result
The pupils align and the warm irises remain visible around them.
Points to watch
Do not turn either iris into a black spot.
