Adeptus Custodes auramite gold and red

Warm auramite gold and red cloth give the Custodes their ceremonial contrast. Dark weapon frames, cool steel blades and selective bright gold reflections keep the armour, fittings and working parts distinct.

Prepare Sagittarum pose five
Inspect the gun underside and the space between the planted legs, remove support dust, then wash and dry the miniature. Apply Black Surface Primer with one low pass under the caliver followed by a fine mist around the armour.
Expected result
The weapon underside, inner legs and plume base are black without losing the tiny gun vents.
Points to watch
Do not coat the Epic figure until it looks wet or merge the caliver with the chest.

1. Prepare the model

Inspect the gun underside and the space between the planted legs, remove support dust, then wash and dry the miniature. Apply Black Surface Primer with one low pass under the caliver followed by a fine mist around the armour.
Expected result
The weapon underside, inner legs and plume base are black without losing the tiny gun vents.
Points to watch
Do not coat the Epic figure until it looks wet or merge the caliver with the chest.

2. Apply the base colours

Gold foundation
Where to paint: Gold armour and the caliver side plate

Work Retributor Armour around the figure in sections: helmet and chest first, then shoulders, hands and legs. Finish by filling the gun's large rectangular side panel from its centre towards the black frame.
Expected result
The armour and gun panel form one even warm-gold mass, including the recesses behind the shoulder rails.
Points to watch
Keep gold off the cylindrical muzzle, curved magazine and narrow black frame pieces.

3. Build the shadows

Draw Reikland Fleshshade through each channel rather than coating the plate. Around the gun panel, pull the shade along the inner edge of the black frame and remove any puddle from the flat gold.
Expected result
The layered shoulders and weapon construction read clearly without dirtying the broad gold faces.
Points to watch
Do not let warm shade pool inside the helmet opening or over the muzzle.

4. Build the highlights

Feather Liberator Gold onto the planes facing the lamp, leaving the lower halves in Retributor Armour. Add Stormhost Silver to the helmet tip, one knuckle and the forward corner of the gun panel.
Expected result
The helmet and weapon corner catch the sharpest reflections; the lower legs remain weighty and warm.
Points to watch
Do not stripe every shoulder layer with silver.

5. Paint the details

Crimson cloth

Lay Mephiston Red down the length of the panel, guide Agrax Earthshade into its vertical grooves, then draw Evil Sunz Scarlet along the two ridges nearest the centre.
Expected result
The tabard reads as deep red folded cloth and remains visibly separate from the black magazine in front of it.
Points to watch
Do not extend red onto the magazine or the inner thighs.
Weapon frame
Where to paint: Black caliver body and steel muzzle

Use Abaddon Black in the panel gaps and on the magazine, then layer Corvus Black across the upper casing faces. Mark only the top rail and magazine ribs with thin Eshin Grey strokes.
Expected result
The gun frame remains black but its rail, casing and magazine can be distinguished individually.
Points to watch
Do not cover the broad gold rectangle or the red cloth behind the magazine.
Muzzle steel
Where to paint: Black caliver body and steel muzzle

Paint the cylinder Leadbelcher with strokes running towards the bore. Darken only the bore and rear join with Nuln Oil, then place Ironbreaker on the upper half of the front lip.
Expected result
The bore is dark and circular, while the upper lip catches a clean cold reflection.
Points to watch
Do not paint the adjacent gold plate or black casing as steel.

6. Finish the model

Paint the ground Abaddon Black, stipple a restrained Dawnstone patch between the feet, then restore the outer rim to an unbroken satin black.
Expected result
The base has subtle texture and a clean rim without drawing attention away from the gold armour.
Points to watch
Do not stipple grey onto the toe guards.
