Clean and prime the power droid
Inspect the casing seams and remove any support scars without shaving off the raised symbols. Wash away handling residue, rinse and let the droid dry completely. Apply Vallejo Black Surface Primer 70.602 in thin passes, reaching behind the cable and beneath the lower housing.
Expected result
The underside is covered and the narrow casing slots remain open.
Points to watch
Do not bury the little rectangular buttons under primer.

1. Prepare the model

Clean and prime the power droid

2. Apply the base colours

Mix three parts Olive Green 70.967 with one part Dryad Bark and cover these panels in two thin coats. Leave the broad access strip and lower panel faces for the ivory colour.
Expected result
The green is opaque but the shallow panel lines are still distinct.
Points to watch
Keep olive paint out of the black control recess.
Establish the warm access panels
Where to paint: Ivory access panels

Cover the access panels with equal parts Ivory 70.918 and Zandri Dust. Build thin coats until the black primer no longer dulls their centres.
Expected result
The panels look warm and pale, with clean olive borders.
Points to watch
Do not fill the deep vertical slots with pale paint.
Keep the control panel dark
Where to paint: Black control panel and coloured buttons
Abaddon Blackcitadel · 21-25
Paint the control recess and every button with Abaddon Black. This dark foundation will separate the later coloured indicators from the surrounding casing.
Expected result
The controls are separated from the surrounding casing by a clear dark field.
Points to watch
Do not spread black onto the broad ivory strip.
Separate the working metal
Where to paint: Steel foot, cable and fittings

Abaddon Blackcitadel · 21-25
Apply two parts Leadbelcher mixed with one part Abaddon Black to the exposed metal, including the curved cable beside the ankle. Keep the narrow gaps between the ankle ridges dark.
Expected result
The metal is darker than the ivory panels but still reflects light.
Points to watch
Do not turn the olive frame into a continuous silver band.
Colour the raised identification marks
Where to paint: Ochre-gold raised markings

Retributor Armourcitadel · 21-35
Mix equal parts Retributor Armour and Zandri Dust for a subdued ochre-gold. Fill the raised markings with the tip, keeping their original outlines unchanged.
Expected result
The markings stand apart from both green and ivory without shining like jewellery.
Points to watch
Do not invent additional lettering between the sculpted marks.

3. Build the shadows

Deepen grime in the casing seams
Where to paint: Ivory access panels
Agrax Earthshadecitadel · 24-15
Run Agrax Earthshade into the panel joins and beneath the projecting frame. Keep it close to these recesses so the central ivory areas remain clean enough for later highlights.
Expected result
The frame casts a narrow brown shadow rather than a broad stain.
Points to watch
Remove tide marks before they dry across the pale surfaces.

4. Build the highlights

Light the roof and upper casing edges
Where to paint: Olive casing and horizontal frame

Ivoryvallejo · 70.918
Lighten Olive Green 70.967 with a little Ivory 70.918 and layer it across the roof and towards the upper panel edges. Add more ivory only for the final narrow edge, leaving the lower olive faces subdued.
Expected result
The roof reads as the brightest green plane without becoming pale grey.
Points to watch
Do not give every green edge the same bright outline.
Recover the pale panel faces
Where to paint: Ivory access panels

Layer Ivory 70.918 over the upper halves of the access panels, thinning the transition towards their dirtier lower edges. Keep the narrow vertical panel beside the controls slightly brighter to frame the dark recess.
Expected result
The pale surfaces have a gentle top-to-bottom transition and retain warm shadows.
Points to watch
Leave the brown seam shading visible at the panel boundaries.
Pick out worn steel edges
Where to paint: Steel foot, cable and fittings
Ironbreakercitadel · 22-59
Use short Ironbreaker strokes on the forward foot corners and the tops of the ankle ridges. Add a fine interrupted line to the upper panel rim, keeping the deeper metal dark.
Expected result
A few crisp reflections define the machinery without making the whole foot silver.
Points to watch
Keep the cable mostly dark; only its upper curve needs a short metallic reflection.

5. Paint the details

Add the red controls

Paint the faces of these two buttons with Mephiston Red over their black foundation. Leave a thin dark border around each square so the colour stays inside the existing detail.
Expected result
Two restrained red accents stand out against the black panel.
Points to watch
Keep the large central rectangle dark.
Finish the cool indicator lights
Where to paint: Black control panel and coloured buttons
Turquoisevallejo · 70.966
White Scarcitadel · 22-57
Fill these two indicators with Turquoise 70.966. Lighten a small portion with White Scar and touch only their upper edges, leaving most of each face a deep blue-green.
Expected result
The cool reflections remain confined to the two small controls.
Points to watch
Do not add glowing spill or tiny invented screen text.

6. Add effects and weathering

Place a few handling chips
Where to paint: Olive casing and horizontal frame
Dryad Barkcitadel · 21-23
Place a few tiny Dryad Bark chips on the exposed corners, varying their spacing. Concentrate wear around the projecting frame and keep the broad panel centres largely undisturbed.
Expected result
Wear is noticeable around the silhouette but does not turn into an all-over speckled texture.
Points to watch
Do not enlarge chips just to make them visible in a close-up.
Finish the lower casing grime
Where to paint: Ivory access panels
Agrax Earthshadecitadel · 24-15
Thin Agrax Earthshade with an equal amount of water and stain the lowest edges of the ivory housing. Feather the upper boundary with a clean damp brush, leaving the strongest colour at the bottom.
Expected result
The droid looks used, with its pale upper panels and coloured controls still readable.
Points to watch
Do not cover the entire foot and casing with a uniform brown wash.
