Prepare the creature
Wash and fully cure a resin print according to the resin instructions. Remove support marks and seams without flattening the scales, then remove dust. Prime the dry model with thin coats of Black Surface Primer from several angles and let it cure.
Expected result
All recesses are covered and the scale texture is still crisp.
Points to watch
Do not flood the mouth or the gaps around the claws.

Paint the skin with a 1:1 mix of Elysian Green and Zandri Dust. Use Rhinox Hide for leather clothing, wrappings and sandal soles; Ushabti Bone for claws and horn tips; Abaddon Black for the eyes and deepest mouth interior. Mix Mephiston Red, Rhinox Hide and a little Vallejo Buff for the muted tongue. Pick out belt studs with Leadbelcher. Apply thin coats until coverage is even.
Expected result
Skin, leather and horn have clean boundaries, including on the hands and feet.
Points to watch
Do not paint the finger skin ivory or turn the sandal straps metallic.

3. Build the highlights

Shade beneath the jaw, arms and clothing with a translucent mix of Elysian Green and Rhinox Hide. Restore the base mix on raised areas, adding Zandri Dust towards the light. Add a little Ushabti Bone for the brow, snout and upper knuckles. Soften patchy transitions with a thin glaze of the base mix.
Expected result
The face is lighter than the legs; sculpted scales remain visible without an identical bright rim on each one.
Points to watch
Do not cover the whole body in pale dots or add new scales.
Give the leather a worn edge

Layer Mournfang Brown over raised folds and the upper edges of the vest. Keep Rhinox Hide under overlaps and along the belt. Add a little Vallejo Flat Earth for short worn marks on exposed edges and sandal straps. Leave broad recesses dark instead of drybrushing the whole garment.
Expected result
Leather remains darker than the skin and its worn edges are irregular but sparse.
Points to watch
Do not add a bright stripe along every strap or paint over the existing folds.

Shade the roots with a little Agrax Earthshade. Layer Ushabti Bone along each claw, then blend Screaming Skull into its tip with progressively shorter strokes. Keep a narrow brown shadow where the claw meets skin.
Expected result
The tips are lighter without making the entire claw white.

Do not paint metallic reflections on the claws.

Add a little Vallejo Buff to the tongue base mix and highlight its raised centre. Keep the mouth corners dark. Tidy the eyes with Abaddon Black and place one tiny White Scar reflection only if the print size allows it. Shade the belt studs with Nuln Oil and touch their upper edges with Ironbreaker.
Expected result
The eyes and mouth read clearly without a glowing or human-like eye effect.
Points to watch
Do not add white sclera, extra teeth or new metal ornaments.

5. Finish the model

Once all paint is dry, apply thin Vallejo Mecha Matt Varnish where skin or leather looks too glossy. Let it dry before adding a tiny drop of Army Painter Gloss Varnish to each eye. Leave the sculpted sandals unchanged; this version has no added scenic base.
Expected result
The eyes catch the light while the skin and clothes stay subdued.
Points to watch
Do not coat the whole creature in gloss varnish.
