Forest-green armour is separated from dark weapon casings by controlled recess shadows. Selective upper highlights and small focal details preserve the Striking Scorpion's crouched forms and individual chainsword teeth.

Prime the Striking Scorpion
Pick debris from the chainsword teeth and helmet fittings, wash the figure and dry it on its side. Apply Black Surface Primer in short bursts around the crouch, using a low pass to reach the chest and inner knees.
Expected result
The crouched body is black in every recess, with the chainsword teeth and helmet details still separated.
Points to watch
Do not bridge the chainsword teeth or leave bare material behind the bent knee.

1. Prepare the model

Pick debris from the chainsword teeth and helmet fittings, wash the figure and dry it on its side. Apply Black Surface Primer in short bursts around the crouch, using a low pass to reach the chest and inner knees.
Expected result
The crouched body is black in every recess, with the chainsword teeth and helmet details still separated.
Points to watch
Do not bridge the chainsword teeth or leave bare material behind the bent knee.

2. Apply the base colours

Apply Death Guard Green in two thin coats, completing one limb before moving to the next. Check the inside of the raised arm, both inner thighs and the rear of the crest before the second coat dries.
Expected result
The warrior is green from every angle, with no black or primer patches on broad leg and helmet surfaces.
Points to watch
Black belongs only in the narrow flexible joints and weapon casings, never on smooth thigh or shin armour.
Material detail
Where to paint: Chainsword and shuriken pistol
Abaddon Blackcitadel · 21-25
Corvus Blackcitadel · 21-44
Block the casings with Abaddon Black, including their undersides. Use Corvus Black on the upper flat planes, leaving a black line around the teeth, barrel and grip.
Expected result
Both weapons are fully enclosed by readable near-black casings with no unfinished rear or underside.
Points to watch
Do not substitute ivory or bright green on the weapon casings in this canonical scheme.

3. Build the shadows

Agrax Earthshadecitadel · 24-15
Feed Agrax Earthshade into the seams with the point of the brush. After each section, turn the model upside down and remove any bead hanging beneath a shoulder or knee.
Expected result
The plates separate crisply, while their green faces remain bright and unstained.
Points to watch
Do not cover the armour in an all-over brown wash; this shrine scheme should stay clean and vivid.

4. Build the highlights

Lay a narrow Elysian Green edge on the light-facing rims. Shorten the line as it turns away, then add Ogryn Camo only to the crest tip, brow corners, one shoulder corner and both kneecap peaks.
Expected result
The face and crest lead the eye, and the legs remain fully green without becoming a bright outline.
Points to watch
Avoid scratches, stippling and equal edge brightness around every plate.
Focal detail
Where to paint: Spirit stones, helmet eyes and mandiblasters
Ogryn Camocitadel · 22-31
Draw Ogryn Camo through each eye slit in one pass, starting at the inner corner. Add a separate tiny point to each mandiblaser aperture so the cheek details stay distinct from the eyes.
Expected result
The eyes form an even bright pair and the four cheek apertures remain smaller supporting lights.
Points to watch
Do not connect an eye to its neighbouring mandiblaser or paint across the green bridge of the nose.

5. Paint the details

Touch Leadbelcher onto each tooth separately so black remains between them. Add Stormhost Silver to the forward corner of the larger teeth and one short line around the pistol muzzle.
Expected result
The full tooth run is countable, and the muzzle reads as hollow metal rather than a silver dot.
Points to watch
Do not drag silver across the black casing or fill the spaces between the teeth.
Material detail
Where to paint: Ribbed black undersuit at the joints

Eshin Greycitadel · 22-51
Re-establish the gaps with Abaddon Black. Pick only the top ridge of each visible rib with Corvus Black, and use a speck of Eshin Grey on the elbow closest to the face.
Expected result
The joints remain narrow and dark but no longer disappear when viewed beside the green armour.
Points to watch
Never extend black onto the smooth inner thighs, knees, shins or boots.
Focal detail
Where to paint: Spirit stones, helmet eyes and mandiblasters
Stormhost Silvercitadel · 22-75
Mephiston Redcitadel · 21-03
Fill each stone with Mephiston Red without touching its rim. Add one pin-sized Stormhost Silver reflection at the upper rear of each oval, keeping all dots on the same side.
Expected result
The stones are clean red jewels with a shared light direction and sharp green rims.
Points to watch
Do not paint ordinary armour rivets red or enlarge the silver reflections into stripes.
