Death Jester — black, bone and crimson

Different blacks separate the Death Jester's hard armour and long cloth folds. A warm bone mask, crimson lining and broken cool edge lights concentrate the strongest contrast near the hood and face.

A deep, clean foundation for the black costume, pale mask and long weapon
Wash the miniature gently, using a soft brush along the coat folds and around the hand on the cannon. Rinse it and let the hood, sleeve and weapon joints dry fully. Remove seams from the long barrel and the outer coat edges. Apply Black Surface Primer in light passes from the front and both sides, then turn the figure and reach behind the coat tails, under the weapon and around the hooked blade without dwelling on the mask.
Expected result
The black primer covers the hidden folds and the full length of the cannon, while the mask planes, fingers, coat edges and hooked blade remain crisp.
Points to watch
Do not leave water inside the hood or sleeve, and do not let primer bridge the fingers, soften the mask cuts or thicken the weapon tip.

2. Apply the base colours

Paint the hard pieces first with Abaddon Black. Use Corvus Black on the cloth, following each long coat panel from shoulder to hem so the two blacks meet cleanly at the armour seams.
Expected result
Armour looks denser and darker than the coat even before highlights are added.
Points to watch
Do not cover the red inner lining visible between the coat tails.
Warm bone mask
Where to paint: Angular face mask with raised brow, cheek planes, nose ridge and jaw

Agrax Earthshadecitadel · 24-15
Build Wraithbone in thin opaque layers. When dry, guide Agrax Earthshade into the sculpted cuts with a fine point and wick away any pool from the broad forehead and cheeks.
Expected result
The mask is warm ivory with clean, dark cuts and no brown staining across its flat planes.
Points to watch
Do not fill the eye slits with ivory or let wash ring the outside edge of the mask.

3. Build the shadows

Deep coat folds
Where to paint: Outer coat tails, hood, shoulder armour, sleeves, gloves, leggings and boots

Glaze Abaddon Black into the sheltered folds. Make the shadow widest between the legs and beneath the weapon stock, then soften it before it reaches the outer coat panels.
Expected result
The airborne pose gains depth and the front leg separates from the coat behind it.
Points to watch
Do not black out the crimson lining or the rectangular support beneath the figure.

4. Build the highlights

Cold edge rhythm
Where to paint: Outer coat tails, hood, shoulder armour, sleeves, gloves, leggings and boots

Use Eshin Grey in broken lines that follow the silhouette. Add Dawnstone only at the hood peak, front knee and the two sharp coat corners; keep the long rear tail quieter.
Expected result
The face and forward leg carry the brightest black highlights, while the rear silhouette recedes.
Points to watch
Do not outline the entire coat hem or turn every rib on the sleeves light grey.
Mask focal edges
Where to paint: Angular face mask with raised brow, cheek planes, nose ridge and jaw
Screaming Skullcitadel · 22-33
Draw Screaming Skull along those four ridges with one controlled pass. Make the nose line narrowest and stop it before the mouth cut so the mask keeps its severe expression.
Expected result
The mask becomes the clear focal point without looking white or chalky.
Points to watch
Do not highlight the entire perimeter or add dots that are not sculpted.
Long weapon silhouette
Where to paint: Crimson coat lining and gems, with the cannon body, barrel, blade and fittings

Keep the long body Abaddon Black and pick the rings and mechanisms with Leadbelcher. Darken the joins with Nuln Oil, then run one narrow Stormhost Silver reflection along the upper blade and the nearest barrel ring.
Expected result
The weapon reads as one long dark shape with separate steel fittings and a sharp bright hook.
Points to watch
Do not silver the whole barrel or break the long black silhouette with repeated bright bands.

5. Paint the details

Crimson lining
Where to paint: Crimson coat lining and gems, with the cannon body, barrel, blade and fittings

Mephiston Redcitadel · 21-03
Paint the lining Mephiston Red from the deepest fold outward, leaving a slim Abaddon Black shadow where it disappears behind the outer coat. Fill each round gem separately and keep its raised rim black or metal.
Expected result
The red appears only in the moving inner folds and gems, creating a controlled diagonal through the pose.
Points to watch
Do not paint the outer coat red or merge neighbouring gems into one stripe.
