Adeptus Custodes auramite gold and red

Warm auramite gold and red cloth give the Custodes their ceremonial contrast. Dark weapon frames, cool steel blades and selective bright gold reflections keep the armour, fittings and working parts distinct.

Prepare the fourth sword bearer
Clean the front ornament with a soft brush, remove the sword seam and wash the miniature. When dry, apply Black Surface Primer from both shoulders inward, then give the back and weapon a separate light pass.
Expected result
The frontal armour has an even black key, and the chest relief and shoulder recesses retain their depth.
Points to watch
Do not let a frontal primer blast fill the chest ornament or leave the sword back uncoated.

1. Prepare the model

Prepare the fourth sword bearer
Where to paint: Whole model

Clean the front ornament with a soft brush, remove the sword seam and wash the miniature. When dry, apply Black Surface Primer from both shoulders inward, then give the back and weapon a separate light pass.
Expected result
The frontal armour has an even black key, and the chest relief and shoulder recesses retain their depth.
Points to watch
Do not let a frontal primer blast fill the chest ornament or leave the sword back uncoated.

2. Apply the base colours

Base coat

Retributor Armourcitadel · 21-35
Lay Retributor Armour evenly over the helmet, chest and large shoulder plates. Then cover the shield and both hands surrounding the sword guard in front of the abdomen.
Expected result
The armour reads as one gold front, while the fingers and guard remain clear between shield and blade.
Points to watch
Keep gold off the short steel blade, red cloth beneath the hands and black elbow gaps.
Base coat
Where to paint: Helmet plume and red tabard
Mephiston Redcitadel · 21-03
Fill the plume locks and thin visor slit with Mephiston Red, then cover the central cloth from waist to hem. Turn the figure to reach the side folds behind the legs.
Expected result
Red links the top of the helmet to the central cloth, and the visor remains thin and level.
Points to watch
Do not thicken the visor, cover the gold plume mount or leave primer at the bottom of the cloth.
Base coat
Where to paint: Black armour joints and sword grip
Abaddon Blackcitadel · 21-25
Restore Abaddon Black in the narrow flexible areas. Preserve slim dark gaps between the hands and guard, then deepen the shadow behind the shield's right edge.
Expected result
Hands, sword and shield stay separate even though they cluster tightly before the torso.
Points to watch
Do not widen black onto the red visor or cover the gold finger joints.
Base coat
Where to paint: Sword blade and exposed metal details
Leadbelchercitadel · 21-28
Paint Leadbelcher from guard to point with short lengthwise strokes. Tilt the figure left to reach the lower edge hidden behind the nearest hand.
Expected result
The small blade is metallic throughout and cleanly separated from the gold hands on both sides.
Points to watch
Keep Leadbelcher off the fingers and do not leave black beside the point.

3. Build the shadows

Reikland Fleshshadecitadel · 24-24
Run Reikland Fleshshade through the breastplate seams and beneath the shoulder domes. Place tiny amounts between the fingers and confine the shield shade to its narrow inner frame.
Expected result
The hands remain distinct around the sword, while chest and shield retain broad clean gold surfaces.
Points to watch
Do not leave a dark ring around the round buckle or spread wash across the shield face.

4. Build the highlights

Blend Liberator Gold down the centre of the helmet and across the upper thirds of the shoulders. Keep the shield light narrow and mark only the knuckles facing the source.
Expected result
The frontal pose has a clear light across head and shoulders, leaving the sword as a separate cool accent.
Points to watch
Do not turn the shield into an evenly bright plate or outline every finger joint.
Highlight
Where to paint: Helmet plume and red tabard
Evil Sunz Scarletcitadel · 22-05
Paint Evil Sunz Scarlet onto a few forward plume locks, strengthening their tips. Add one broad soft light to the central cloth fold and two shorter lights beside it.
Expected result
The plume and central fold catch the light while the cloth sides remain deep red.
Points to watch
Do not outline the hem in scarlet or make every plume lock equally bright.
Final point highlight
Where to paint: Sword blade and exposed metal details
Stormhost Silvercitadel · 22-75
Place Stormhost Silver on the point and draw a short fine line back along the near edge. Add a separate triangular mark to the upper bevel.
Expected result
The point reads immediately as sharp while the centre of the sword retains a darker steel value.
Points to watch
Do not merge both highlights into one silver patch or outline the far edge.

5. Finish the model

Base coat
Where to paint: Ground texture and rim of the base
Abaddon Blackcitadel · 21-25
Cover the front semicircle with Abaddon Black, then work between the legs and beneath the cloth. Turn the figure once to level the full vertical rim.
Expected result
The platform is evenly black around the full circle and beneath the central cloth.
Points to watch
Do not catch the lower red cloth or leave pale dots beside either toe.
