A clean, even foundation for the rider and bike
Wash the model in warm water with a drop of mild detergent, using a soft brush around the tyre tread and engine ribs. Rinse it, let every recess dry, then remove any remaining mould line along the wheels and fork. Apply Grey Surface Primer in several light passes while turning the bike; finish with a short pass from below so the engine and mudguards are covered without filling the chain, controls or goggle rims.
Expected result
The grey primer is matte and continuous around both wheels, beneath the bike and behind the rider, while the tread, engine ribs and controls remain sharply separated.
Points to watch
Do not start painting while water remains around the hubs, and do not build a grainy primer ridge on the front mudguard or inside the wheel tread.

1. Prepare the model

2. Apply the base colours

Lay down XV-88 first, then cover the upward faces with thin Light Orange. Leave a narrow brown border along bolts and panel joins so the orange stays warm without losing the construction lines.
Expected result
The armour and bike panels read as one orange family, while every bolt row and seam remains visible.
Points to watch
Do not fill the headlight lenses, gloves or blue-grey sleeves with orange.
Worn blue-grey workwear
Where to paint: Rider's blue-grey clothes, gloves, boots, bare head and hands on the controls

Dawnstonecitadel · 22-49
Base the cloth with Corvus Black, then brush Eshin Grey over the raised folds while following the bend of each limb. Reserve Dawnstone for the elbow ridges and the two creases catching light across the thighs.
Expected result
The seated posture is clear from the fold direction, and the cloth stays visibly softer than the orange armour.
Points to watch
Do not edge-highlight every fold or turn the trousers into light grey bands.

Where to paint: Frame, engine, exhaust, fork, wheel hubs, weapon, handlebars, tyres and tread blocks

Nuln Oilcitadel · 24-14
Paint rubber and grips Abaddon Black first. Block the exposed mechanics with Leadbelcher, then place Nuln Oil into the engine ribs, hub centres and muzzle without staining the nearby orange panels.
Expected result
The tyres form two solid dark circles and every major mechanical group is readable as metal.
Points to watch
Do not drybrush silver across the tyres, rider's boots or orange armour.

3. Build the shadows

Dusty panel depth
Where to paint: Orange armour panels on the rider and bike, including tank, mudguard and luggage boxes

Feed Agrax Earthshade into these sheltered edges with the tip of the brush. On the mudguard and tank, pull the wet shade backward so the deepest tone follows the bike's direction of travel.
Expected result
Recesses are deeper and the forward edges remain brighter, with no tide marks across flat orange panels.
Points to watch
Do not wash the whole orange surface or pool shade around the round knee pads.

4. Build the highlights

Mix a little Ushabti Bone into XV-88 and draw short broken marks along the leading edges. Add two or three tiny chips on the mudguard and boxes, keeping most of each panel smooth.
Expected result
The bike looks sun-faded and used, but the orange panels still read as painted metal rather than bare rust.
Points to watch
Do not cover every edge with pale lines or scatter chips through the middle of the chest plate.

5. Paint the details

Face behind the goggles
Where to paint: Rider's blue-grey clothes, gloves, boots, bare head and hands on the controls

Thin Wraithbone with a little water and cover the skin. Place Agrax Earthshade under the goggles, beneath the cheekbones and between the fingers; restore the forehead, nose tip and upper lip with Screaming Skull.
Expected result
The face remains pale and weathered, with the mouth readable and both goggle rims clean.
Points to watch
Do not paint bright whites into the goggle lenses or flood the open mouth with shade.

6. Add effects and weathering

Road wear
Where to paint: Frame, engine, exhaust, fork, wheel hubs, weapon, handlebars, tyres and tread blocks

Touch Ironbreaker onto the fork, pegs and exhaust where boots or debris would polish them. Stipple a dry XV-88 mix into the lowest tread and rear tyre shoulder, fading the dust before it reaches the hubs.
Expected result
Wear concentrates on working edges and ground contact, while the engine centre remains dark and oily.
Points to watch
Do not dust the rider's face or cover the whole rear wheel in one flat brown layer.
