Prepare the badger and apply primer
Remove supports and clean their contact points, taking care around the long claws. Complete the washing and curing required for your printing material, rinse away dust with a suitable cleaner and let the model dry. Apply thin coats of Grey Surface Primer from several directions so the fur grooves and underside are covered.
Expected result
The clean, dry sculpt is evenly primed and its claws remain distinct.
Points to watch
Do not sand away the fur ridges or flood the gaps between claws.

1. Prepare the model

Apply thin coats of Grey Surface Primer from several directions so the fur grooves and underside are covered.
Expected result
The clean, dry sculpt is evenly primed and its claws remain distinct.
Points to watch
Do not sand away the fur ridges or flood the gaps between claws.

2. Apply the base colours

Mix equal parts Dryad Bark and Dawnstone. Paint the back and flanks in two thin coats, following the fur towards the rear. Cover the tail and the far side of the body too. Keep the legs, chest and face separate for their own base colours.
Expected result
The back is evenly grey-brown on both sides.
Points to watch
Do not leave grey primer between the shoulder tufts.
Black legs and facial mask

Add a little Eshin Grey to Abaddon Black and paint the dark fur. On the head, follow the reference to carry each dark band through the eye towards the ear. Leave the forehead centre and cheeks for the pale colour. Turn the model to reach behind all four legs.
Expected result
The mask is balanced and the legs are fully painted.
Points to watch
Keep the cheeks and the stripe between the eyes pale.
Ivory cheeks and forehead

Mix two parts Ivory with one part Karak Stone. Paint the pale face markings, using short strokes along the tufts at the border of the black mask. Keep the central forehead stripe narrow near the nose and broader towards the crown, as shown in the reference.
Expected result
The pale markings are opaque and their boundaries follow the fur.

Do not paint over the black eye bands or nose.

Mix Dryad Bark with Karak Stone and paint each claw separately. Use Abaddon Black for the nose and eye rims, then place a small area of Rhinox Hide inside each eye. Check the rear claws as well as the large front ones.
Expected result
Claws are separate and the nose is darker than the surrounding fur.
Points to watch
Do not turn the whole paw ivory or enlarge the eyes.

3. Build the shadows

Darken Dryad Bark with a little Abaddon Black and thin it until translucent. Place the mix between the larger grey-brown tufts and along the lower flanks. Let it dry, then repeat only where a deeper shadow is needed. Keep most of the upper back free of the dark mix.
Expected result
The coarse coat has depth without looking wet or muddy.
Points to watch
Avoid dark stains on the ivory face markings.

4. Build the highlights

Mix Dawnstone with a little Karak Stone and paint short strokes along the raised tufts. Add Administratum Grey for a smaller set of highlights across the back and shoulders. Leave warm brown visible between some strands, and vary the length of the strokes so the coat is not covered in uniform pale lines.
Expected result
The back has varied grey-brown strands with brighter light across the top.
Points to watch
Do not redraw hair where the sculpt has no strand.
Subtle light on black fur

Eshin Greycitadel · 22-51
Use Eshin Grey for short highlights on the raised black tufts. Add a trace of Dawnstone only for the most exposed strands on the front legs. On the face, use fewer strokes so the mask remains clearly black rather than grey.
Expected result
Black fur has shape but stays noticeably darker than the back.
Points to watch
Do not outline every hair in light grey.
Clean light on the face
Where to paint: Pale cheeks and forehead stripe

Layer Ivory on the upper face tufts, leaving the cream base in the deeper grooves. Add White Scar for a few small highlights on the forehead and upper cheek. Correct any grey or black spill with the cream base before restoring the light.
Expected result
The facial markings are clean and the forehead draws the eye.
Points to watch
Keep the black mask narrow and intact around the eyes.

Add Ivory to Karak Stone and highlight the upper half of each claw, keeping the roots dark. Put a small black pupil in each eye and a tiny White Scar reflection. Highlight the nose with a restrained Eshin Grey stroke. Leave all fur matte and use gloss, if desired, only on the eyes and nose.
Expected result
The claws are readable and the eyes have small, matching reflections.
Points to watch
Do not join the claw highlights or spread gloss onto the fur.
