Clean and prime the instrument-covered sphere
Inspect the thin instruments and remove support residue without bending them. Wash away dust and handling marks, rinse and let the figure dry completely. Apply Vallejo Black Surface Primer 70.602 in thin passes, turning the body to reach beneath the middle rim.
Expected result
The sphere is evenly primed and all small tool openings remain distinct.
Points to watch
Do not hold the miniature by the tall looped tool.

2. Apply the base colours

Lay down the dark navy shell

Mix two parts Kantor Blue with one part Abaddon Black and cover the upper shell in thin, even coats. Work around each instrument socket and stop at the equatorial rim. Keep the broad surface smooth rather than stippled.
Expected result
The dome has a deep blue foundation without patchy primer showing through.
Points to watch
Keep blue off the lower hemisphere and metal tools.
Set the black underside and dark housings
Where to paint: Black lower hemisphere
Abaddon Blackcitadel · 21-25
Paint these areas with Abaddon Black even where the primer already looks dark. Keep a narrow black separation beneath the middle rim and around the upper optic so the later blue insert remains distinct.
Expected result
The underside is visibly darker than the navy upper shell.
Points to watch
Do not extend the black area across the broad front of the dome.
Establish the instrument metal

Leadbelchercitadel · 21-28
Use two parts Leadbelcher mixed with one part Abaddon Black on the metal instruments and rim. Paint around the open sockets instead of filling their interiors. The projecting needle receives the same dark steel foundation as its barrel.
Expected result
The tools are dark metallic shapes with clear openings and joints.
Points to watch
Do not turn the surrounding dome metallic.
Pick out the small brass fasteners
Where to paint: Brass fasteners and red indicators

Dryad Barkcitadel · 21-23
Darken Retributor Armour with a little Dryad Bark and touch the existing bolt heads and small collar. Keep the warm colour confined to those fittings; most of the rim and instruments remain steel.
Expected result
A few tiny warm accents interrupt the steel without dominating it.
Points to watch
Do not gild the long probes or the equatorial ring.
Colour the blue optical inserts
Where to paint: Blue optics and socket inserts
Turquoisevallejo · 70.966
Apply Turquoise 70.966 inside these three optical areas with a fine tip. Leave black or dark metal around each one, and follow the existing internal shapes rather than painting a flat blue disc over the opening.
Expected result
Blue remains inside the lens and two sockets, with their depth intact.
Points to watch
The other instrument bowls stay dark metal.
Add the two small red markers
Where to paint: Brass fasteners and red indicators

Use Mephiston Red for the two small coloured faces already visible on the reference. Work within their metal borders. Keep the injector barrel and needle steel, with no red streaks across them.
Expected result
The red is limited to two small markers.
Points to watch
Do not add more red controls around the sphere.

3. Build the shadows

Define the tool joints

Run a small amount of Nuln Oil around the tool collars and into the rim recesses. Remove any spill from the blue shell immediately with a clean damp brush. Keep the thin tools free of pooled wash.
Expected result
The metal joints are defined without staining the smooth shell.
Points to watch
Do not wash the entire navy hemisphere black.

4. Build the highlights

Build smooth light across the dome

Lighten Kantor Blue gradually with Calgar Blue and a little Eshin Grey. Build thin layers over the upper front curve, reducing their area towards the centre of each broad reflection. Soften the boundaries with the preceding darker mix.
Expected result
The dome looks rounded and navy, with no hard pale circles.
Points to watch
Do not cover the surface with tiny white speckles to imitate texture.
Show the darker lower curve
Where to paint: Black lower hemisphere

Eshin Greycitadel · 22-51
Add a little Eshin Grey to Abaddon Black and blend a restrained highlight across the front of the underside. Use the same mix on the upper optic housing. Keep both highlights darker than those on the navy dome.
Expected result
The black parts have volume but remain secondary to the upper shell.
Points to watch
Keep the narrow equatorial gap fully dark.
Sharpen the instrument reflections
Where to paint: Steel instruments and middle rim

Stormhost Silvercitadel · 22-75
Highlight the exposed metal edges with Ironbreaker, breaking the lines where the tools turn away from the light. Use Stormhost Silver only for a few tiny glints at the highest corners. Leave most instrument faces dark steel.
Expected result
The instruments remain thin, readable shapes rather than bright silver outlines.
Points to watch
Do not thicken the needle or loops with heavy highlights.

5. Paint the details

Finish the small cyan reflections

White Scarcitadel · 22-57
Add a little White Scar to Turquoise 70.966 and place a short highlight on the lit edge inside each blue area. Keep the surrounding recess dark. One tiny near-white reflection on the upper lens is enough; do not add light spill across the dome.
Expected result
The cyan details catch attention without flattening the open sockets.
Points to watch
Leave dark gaps between the small shapes inside each instrument socket.
