Saturated yellow armour is built over ochre and framed by black trim and dark equipment. Gold emblems, a white shoulder disc and small red lenses give the Imperial Fists Intercessor clear, concentrated accents.

Prepare the advancing rifleman
Smooth support marks around the scope, shoulder rims and soles. Wash away print dust in warm water with a little soap, rinse and dry the figure thoroughly. Apply Grey Surface Primer in several light passes, rotating the miniature to reach behind the rifle and between its legs.
Expected result
The shoulder panels are smoothly primed and the scope and muzzle retain their shape.
Points to watch
Do not spray a thick coat into the scope fittings or magazine recess.

1. Prepare the model

Where to paint: Whole model

2. Apply the base colours

Apply Abaddon Black to the shoulder rims, rifle casing, gloves, pouches and flexible joints. Keep a clean boundary against the yellow armour.
Expected result
The black equipment frames the yellow armour cleanly.

Do not paint the yellow hand-back plates black.

Paint the barrel, muzzle, scope casing, magazine and exposed rifle mechanisms with Leadbelcher. Leave the gun body and sight lenses black.
Expected result
The scope and working metal parts are distinct from the black casing.
Points to watch
Keep metallic paint out of the muzzle opening.
Paint the raised emblems gold
Where to paint: Gold chest and rifle emblems, shoulder badge and red lenses

Paint the chest aquila and small rifle emblem with thin Retributor Armour, keeping the feather gaps open.
Expected result
Both emblems are gold with sharp raised detail.
Points to watch
The shoulder fist is black, not gold.
Paint the white shoulder disc

Build a smooth white circle for the shoulder badge with several thin coats of White Scar. Keep it inside the black border.
Expected result
The disc is opaque and round, with a tidy black border.
Points to watch
Do not cover the surrounding yellow panel.
Paint the red eye lenses

Red sits neatly inside each eye opening.

Paint all yellow armour with two thin coats of Vallejo Yellow Ochre. Cover the hidden sides of the limbs and backpack as well.
Expected result

3. Build the shadows

Shade the steel around the scope

Apply Nuln Oil around the scope mounts, barrel joins and magazine grooves. Remove excess from the smooth cylinders.
Expected result
Dark joints give the scope and barrel clear separation.
Points to watch
Avoid black puddles on the top of the scope.
Shade the gold relief

Use Reikland Fleshshade in the gaps between the chest feathers and around the little rifle skull.
Expected result
Warm recesses make the small gold details distinct.
Points to watch
Do not stain the yellow chest with brown wash.

4. Build the highlights

Build the main yellow colour

Apply thin layers of Vallejo Flat Yellow over the open armour panels. Leave the ochre visible beneath overlapping plates and around the deepest joins.
Expected result
Most of the armour is yellow, with warm ochre shadows at the overlaps.
Points to watch
Do not fill the shaded seams with thick yellow paint.
Brighten the upper armour
Where to paint: Yellow helmet, shoulders, backpack and limb armour

Build Vallejo Deep Yellow gradually over the helmet crown, top of the near shoulder and front of the leading knee. Feather each layer into the surrounding yellow.
Expected result
The upper panels are lighter without abrupt bands of colour.
Points to watch
Keep the lower inner legs noticeably darker.
Highlight hard and soft black parts differently

Ironbreakercitadel · 22-59
Use fine Eshin Grey lines on the hard black casing and trim, but softer short strokes on the gloves and pouches. Add Ironbreaker to the upper steel edges of the scope, muzzle and magazine.
Expected result
Steel shines more brightly than the black gloves and trim.
Points to watch
Keep the gloves dark and avoid metallic highlights on them.
Highlight the golden emblems
Where to paint: Gold chest and rifle emblems, shoulder badge and red lenses

Touch Liberator Gold onto the upper feather ridges and the top of the rifle emblem.
Expected result
Small golden highlights show the raised feathers clearly.
Points to watch
Do not mix gold pigment into the red lenses.
Lighten the red lens corners

Use a fine brush to add Evil Sunz Scarlet along the lower outer edge of each red lens.
Expected result
Each lens has a small orange-red crescent above the black rim.

Pick out the final bright corners

Use small amounts of Vallejo Ice Yellow on the helmet brow, the upper corner of the near shoulder and the front knee edge. Keep the lines short and fine.
Expected result
A few pale accents make the yellow armour look sharply finished.
Points to watch
Do not outline the whole suit in pale yellow.

5. Paint the details

Complete the black fist emblem

Paint the black fist inside the white shoulder disc with Abaddon Black, following the established badge shape. Correct the edges with White Scar if needed.
Expected result
The fist is clearly recognisable and centred on the disc.
Points to watch
Do not enlarge the fist until it touches the outer border.

Where to paint: Gold chest and rifle emblems, shoulder badge and red lenses

Add a tiny White Scar dot to the upper inner corner of each red eye lens.
Expected result
The bright dots match on both lenses.
Points to watch
The dots must not cover the red gradients.

6. Add effects and weathering

Add restrained wear to the lower legs

Tap a little XV-88 onto the toes and lower greaves with a nearly dry brush. Pick out the lower edge of a few larger chips with Ushabti Bone and add a tiny Abaddon Black centre to those chips only.
Expected result
A few marks suggest use while the yellow plates remain mostly clean.
Points to watch
Avoid dense random chipping on the chest and helmet.
